Putin’s Russia War has been a major turning point in the war in Ukraine. The Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, said Mariupol is being "reduced to ashes."
Mariupol is a city in the Donetsk Oblast of Ukraine. It was the key flashpoint of fighting during the 2014 pro-Russian rebel invasion of eastern Ukraine, and again during the Ukrainian army's liberation of Mariupol from pro-Russian separatists in January 2019.
The city has been under control by pro-Russian separatists since April 2014 and was recaptured by Ukrainian forces on January 24th 2019 with assistance from European Union Naval Forces.
